"For our Elders"
While back in Jambinu (Geraldton) I took the opportunity to sit down with my family and do some portraits and photos of our Elders as well as sit down and listen to some of the yarns while driving around town.
I wish I could write and tell all of Aunty Rae's story here but that isn't mine to share. Though one part of her story I did want to share was about finally coming home to Mullewa as a young teenager, she said it had been the first time being back since being taken away and getting off the train into the small town she was scared as she watched all her people (my great-grandparents) come over the hill surround her and huddle together to start crying as she had finally been bought back home to her country.
A scene like that is something crazy to imagine and beautiful at the same time.
