My niece came over with her partner after giving birth 4 days earlier to get some quick newborn photos.
This was my first time trying to photograph a newborn so I didnt venture too far from the backyard and it was a cold evening so we wrapped him in the Marlu (Kangaroo) skin and all my mother, this babies great grandmother could do was be concerned for him and making sure he was warm. So if I left it mum this would have been done inside at the kitchen table 😂
In aboriginal families where I am from family structure and titles are a bit different. This baby is my Pop (he would call me Pop) his mum is my niece and my nieces father is my cousin, my cousin's dad is my uncle who is my mums older brother. I hope that makes sense.
In my time in the navy I was very often confronted and told I was wrong explaining my family structure in this way but I use this as an example of other ways indigenous culture is seperate from eurocentric culture.
