Singular. Alone. Itself

Not a object alone occupying space but a location which its colonial inheritors should view with disgrace. Site of a massacre of Yamaji people in the 1800's

A quote from the Resident Magistrate of the time "Dear sir... The natives have sent word to Mr L Burges that they would kill cattle so long as they could find one in the district, they stationed themselves in a large swamp or thicket called Bootenal near the mouth of the Greenough from which they make incursions all around and our comparatively safe from all efforts of the police." "Finding it necessary to dislodge such a large number of natives I made arrangements with the stock holders of the neighbourhood to send all the hands they could spare to assist Me Drummond and the Police and to... Proceed to Bootenall and desist til they have driven the Natives from the thicket and to arrest all the known offenders they should find there."

These people who where driven from these thickets were my great grandfather's people's and ancestors. Not to long ago to forget and not to far in the future to see who still owns and farms the land surrounding.

Geraldton isn't just about it's leaning trees, beaches, glass ball, sunsets and lighthouse this whole countryside has history and more to explore outside what there is to see through a White lens (and pen) for the last 200 years.
