While on our last night on kuku-Yalanji bubu in the Cape York with @commongroundfirstnations part of the creators circle gathering I was able to snap a few frames of @balaluke walking through his great-grandmothers traditional country led by Johnny at @jarramali_rock_art_tours through traditional turning burning on country. This was an unexpected final event of the night and one Luke didn't expect either as he came rushing from the buggy with his camera in hand expecting to photograph something but instead he would be conducting it. İt was during sunset where a few of us sat by the rocks above both them as they walked and talked about what they were doing and why.
Photographing this I could tell how important it was for Luke to walk through these moments and steps and it also made me think of my own home/country where I come from and how important it can be to always maintain a connection there and how important our cultural knowledge holders are in maintaining our culture to then be passed on to others.
